What does embellishment mean?
Embellishment in home décor is really just detailing – using textured materials, adornment and add-ons for visual and tactile interest. This season, you’ll see lots of fringing, tufting, tassels, feathers, crushed fabrics, even macramé. There’s a wonderful warmth and whimsy to embellishment, yet it can still be quite elegant depending on how you use it. Tassels and tufting, for example, are classic English pedigree looks, while macramé and feathers definitely lend a more Bohemian feel to a space.
Is this trend a whole new look?
It can be! One of the most powerful trends this year is definitely toward luxe, sensory rich and abundant. There’s also a movement toward a retro 1970s look, with lots of foliage, warm colours, yarn accessories and macramé wall hangings.

Tufting is our favourite furniture embellishment – and we think you’ll agree! Tufting is totally trendy today, but it’s also timeless. Translated, that means your tufted furnishings will be in style for many seasons to come. Choose a leather tufted wing back chair, a tufted tuxedo style sofa or a tufted ottoman to serve as a coffee table. How about tufted dining room chairs or a headboard? Or perhaps indulge in a tufted chaise, loveseat or sectional? Colour and style options are limitless right now!
What about embellished accessories?
Accessories are always a smart choice for any trend. How about cushions with crystal detailing for your bed? Perhaps a bedspread or throw with corner tassels? A fringed rug adds warmth and texture, while tasseled sofa cushions or knitted geometric-patterned pillows are fresh and fun. Think elegant meets eclectic; traditional meets trendy.
