How to Wow Guests with Your Entranceway and Staircase

Some of the best opportunities to showcase your sense of style are right inside your front door – the entranceway and stairs! When a guest steps into your home, these are the first areas they see. Not only that, you may find that there’s even space for extra storage or to create a cozy nook. I hope our ideas inspire you!

Entranceway and Stairway accents

Add a bench or console table to you entranceway for extra storage; and a large clock can bring some fun to your space – and keep you on time!

Entranceway

Welcome your guests with an entranceway that speaks volumes about your good taste! Here are some of our suggestions:

  • Accent console or chest. Practical and beautiful, an accent console or chest can be used to house gloves and hats, dog leashes, sunglasses and much more. Not to mention, the top is perfect for a fresh bouquet of flowers and a pretty bowl to keep keys in easy reach. I suggest an accent chest in a glorious rich colour or with metallic accents – don’t be shy.
  • Coat rack. Even if you have a hall closet, I love the convenience of a coat rack! It’s quick and easy and adds a casual vibe to your entryway.
  • Every entryway needs a bench or chair! You can find a size for any space, plus there are options with storage. Be sure the colour and style complement your accent table and other elements.
  • On the walls. Metallic wallpaper or a dramatic paint colour adds excitement to an entranceway. This is also the ideal location for art that you love, whether it’s a large abstract or a grouping of old black & white family photos. Remember this is the first impression of your home!
  • Large mirror. Most of us hang a mirror in the entranceway, but why settle for something small over a table? If you have room, hang a large vertical mirror that opens the space and reflects light.
  • Statement light fixture. If there’s a perfect place for a glamourous chandelier or funky industrial light, this is it! Even if the rest of your home is more subdued, entryway lighting should definitely stand out and get noticed!

Stair Landings

Depending on the size of your landing, you can go beyond the predicable (although still lovely) vase or plant. Why not ‘furnish’ your landing with one of these ideas?

  • Bookcase – takes up a small footprint but delivers lots of vertical storage and a display area Accent table or chair – choose something that makes a bold statement
  • Reading nook – how about a gorgeous leather wingback chair and lamp?
  • Mini-office – perhaps you have space for a pretty desk and chair?

Stairway Walls

Often overlooked, this a great location for a grouping of paintings or photos. Make it farmhouse trendy by adding a large initial, meaningful word or a dried wreath in an ‘organized random’ pattern. Or stay traditional with symmetry and perfectly balanced/aligned images. PS Very large clocks are timeless in a stairwell!

Enjoy making your entranceway and stairs a fabulous invitation to your home!
